Following the above, I started practicing and tracking in the dark (somewhat accidentally, since late night was the only time I could get things quiet enough to record where I was living at the time). I hope I'm wrong here, I'd love to hear about it!Ģ. It seems like this would be absolutely essential for DAW accessibility, yet I have yet to hear of ANY DAW that is capable of rendering the screen and the mouse optional for all but tiny parts of the workflow. Which seems like it should be for an industry based on sound and the auditory senses, yeah? One that maybe embraces most everything digital has to offer, but also makes the display and mouse COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. More recently, I started asking myself out of my own frustrations with trying to work 'in the box' - what about a more 'analog-style' (not necessarily ANALOG, per se) tracking, mixing and mastering workflow. On the other hand, for fully blind users, it was AMAZING to watch people as they interacted with computers with the monitors off. Some of the users only needed larger fonts, higher contrast, screen magnification, etc. And I also got a first-hand taste of the frustrations that blind users of IT experience on a daily basis. Physical buttons, auditory feedback, and vibration/braille. HID must exist solely of auditory and/or tactile interactions and cues. Screen readers, screen magnifiers, 100% keyboard navigable interfaces. So I ended up diving somewhat-ignorantly into the world of blind computer accessibility. One of those clients ended up being a small non-profit that provided job skills training services to people who had lost their ability to see.

Several years ago, when I was starting a non-profit computer refurbishing/recycling program and setting up community computer labs in my town using Linux (was able to keep systems pleasantly usable for 2-5 years after their 'Microsoft Windows expiration date' and easily create hack-proof, no-maintenance systems that non-professional lab volunteers could easily keep up to date with a simple set of instructions). I'm actually curious about this, though, for two reasons:ġ. If so, what equipment do you (or they) use? How does their equipment and workflow and interfacing differ from a 'normal' DAW user? Are DAWs accessible at all for blind people? The text is 'microscopic' to me, but their young eyes have no problem with this. We have some young employees and interns at Harrison who can use Mixbus on a 13' macbook monitor, set to its highest resolution. Of course I have to use my reading glasses

2k resolution allows me to see the sends, eq, and one of Gate or Comp. The text is pretty small, but I can read it because I am sitting close. my fonts are nicely sized so I can work all day without any strain.Ī 27' 2k monitor (1440 vertical pixels) also works fine for me.

My personal setup is a 24' 1080p monitor, and I can only see 1 element at a time. And this means you won't fit the whole channelstrip.

and in this case, you'll likely want to scale the display (in your mac settings) so the fonts are larger. A 55' screen should be placed farther away. if you have to move your neck around to see the corners, it's too close. However, this probably won't overcome a bad monitor placement.Ī 55' screen isn't intended to be used up-close. I use Option+scroll because this is mostly unused in Mixbus. In your mac preferences, you can enable Preferences->Accessibility->Zoom 'use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom'.
